What is magistrale?
A compounded medication is a preparation made by the pharmacist following a prescription from the doctor, veterinarian, dentist or podiatrist. The pharmacist can legally prepare this medication when:
- it is not yet marketed in Canada.
- it is temporarily unavailable in Canada.
- A dosage or form (e.g. syrup, capsule) is not available.
- the taste or appearance of a medication is not accepted by a patient.
- there is an allergy to one of the ingredients contained in a commercial medication.
What is a sterile preparation versus a non-sterile compound?
A sterile preparation must be made under strict aseptic conditions for parenteral or ophthalmic use. A non-sterile compounded preparation is packaged in a clean and controlled environment for topical, oral, vaginal or rectal use.
Who can place an order?
Any pharmacy, any hospital center or any medical, dental or aesthetic clinic can carry out masterful preparation. All you need is a prescription from a qualified healthcare professional.
How can I place an order online?
You must register for an account and complete the online order form.
I can't find the product I want. What should I do?
You can call us at 418-681-0045 or 1-800-880-8747. It will be a pleasure for us to answer your questions.
I made an error in my order. What should I do?
You can simply contact us by telephone as soon as possible. Unfortunately, please note that it is not possible for us to correct or cancel an already prepared master.
How soon will my order be ready?
For non-sterile compounded preparations, your order will usually be ready within 48 to 72 hours. However, if this requires the special manufacturing of capsules or in the event of a higher than normal traffic period, please note that delays can be up to a week. We always give priority to pediatric preparations and those with very short stability. In the event of an emergency, please contact us immediately so that we can best assist you; your request will be processed as a priority.
I made my purchases including the delivery service. How long will it take for me to receive my order?
If you opt for the direct delivery service, your order will be delivered to you the same day it is manufactured, approximately 48 to 72 hours after your online order. By choosing the DP+ service, following our telephone call, you will receive your preparation with your next order from DP+ the following working day. Then, through Purolator, you will receive your order the next business day after shipping, again taking manufacturing time into account.
Did you receive my order?
Once your online form is submitted, you will receive an email notification or the "Sent" icon will appear on the screen. The online form will ask you to attach your patient's prescription or your prescription for professional use.
When will I get my product?
Your product will be sent to you according to the delivery method chosen: for non-sterile compounded preparations, this may be by direct delivery or courier, while for sterile preparations, it will be exclusively by direct delivery or courier. You will have access to the courier tracking number, if available, when your order is shipped
How stable is it?
For non-sterile magisterials, stability can vary from seven days to 365 days depending on the recipe. As for sterile preparations, many of them remain stable for one week when stored in the refrigerator, but their stability may be shorter. We invite you to consult the web page of the ATIVAD Regional Committee of the CIUSSSCN, recipe section. Please be assured that we will endeavor to provide a schedule for subsequent shipments if we need to split a prescription into multiple services.
What is the deadline?
- For non-sterile prescriptions, pediatric prescriptions are always processed as a priority in the morning for direct delivery the same day of manufacture or the next day if they are sent by courier. Allowing 48 to 72 business hours for orders ensures you receive them on time.
- For sterile preparations, the order cut-off time is 2:30 p.m. for local deliveries with administration the same evening or the following morning. For deliveries outside Quebec, the order cut-off time is 1 p.m.
Why indicated the client's insurance type?
The client's insurance type ensures that you have the correct documentation associated with your compounding or sterile preparation. Packaging, transportation costs and fees negotiated by the AQPP and RAMQ differ from those with private insurance. You will also be informed if your preparation is covered or not covered, or if it is part of the exceptional patient measure.
Why an Rx for professional use and how to write it?
The professional use prescription allows you to purchase the narcotic contained in your compounded or sterile preparation.
- For example, a prescription for 7% ketamine cream, 1000g, to serve 100g at a time, would require a professional use prescription of 7g x 10 services, therefore 70g of ketamine.
- Likewise, a prescription for professional use authorizes you to purchase compounded preparations or capsules for your pharmacy without taxes without sending us your client's prescription. You write the prescription on behalf of your pharmacy, including the date, product name, concentration, quantity required and validity of the prescription. This must be signed by the pharmacist
What is physicochemical, microbiological stability?
Physico-chemical stability refers to the ability of the product to remain stable before degradation exceeding 10% occurs, thus affecting its effectiveness and physical integrity. Microbiological stability concerns the possibility of microbial growth in your compounded preparation, and it has been determined according to the standards of the Ordre des Pharmaciens du Québec since 2014.
What is DLU?
The Expiration Date (DLU) of the product means that it can be used if it is administered to a client before this date and time. The DLU is determined by the microbiological stability of the product or by the physico-chemical stability if this is shorter
Is the lecture covered?
For all prescriptions covered by RAMQ, we will indicate this to you on the prescription receipt. Typically, a call to your client's insurance with the DINs used will help you determine if compounding is covered. The majority of intravenous antibiotics are covered.
It is also possible to ask us for a price quote
What are emergency transportation fees?
Transport costs include costs for maintaining the cold chain, for delivery within 24 hours and...
